New Media Case Study

The brief: A leading UK charity wanted to develop a digital strategy (internet, intranet and extranet) that would enable the organisation to put technology to good use to build revenue, cut costs, manage knowledge and where possible facilitate delivering its mission more effectively.

Our thinking: Starting with a blank sheet of paper can be daunting, but via a series of interviews with key stakeholders and blue sky workshops a first draft of where the organisation wanted technology to assist it across all departments was developed.

This was then sense checked by business planning which made tangible the benefits the organisation would derive from its investment, this broadly included looking at:

  • Revenue generation from recruiting new supporters, events and ecommerce
  • Costs savings by dealing with a percentage of supporters online
  • Cost savings across internal communications, print, postage and meeting travel
  • Improved efficiencies from being able to access the organisations most up-to-date knowledge quickly and easily
  • Engagement through activism online
  • Data integration across several key business systems
  • Improved knowledge sharing and communications with partners, both Nationally and Internationally

Our approach: A mixture of stakeholder consultation, business planning and project management, enable us to:

  • Document and specify the system required
  • Produce a costed business plan with tangible and less tangible business benefits
  • Produce a shortlist of creative and technology vendors
  • Manage the tender process
  • Oversee the creative process and technical implementation
  • Monitor that the business benefits were being reaped as planned

Outcomes: The organisation now has a digital infrastructure that is enabling all kinds of new opportunities for the public to engage, revenue generation and for staff to play a more creative role in idea generation, as the necessary information is at their fingertips rather than buried in a filing cabinet somewhere in another office.
