So Where Are We?

December 2, 2011

Tony Elischer

The financial meltdown of September 2008 seems like a lifetime ago, but the media have managed to maintain a healthy focus on how dire the world situation continues to be, constantly bombarding us with stories and insights of gloom. Of course much of this is real, but three years of these stories has definitely cemented [...]

In late 2010, THINK Consulting carried out a research assignment into corporate engagement: we reviewed the history, the trends, the emerging theories (and there are a few), numerous practices, tools and models (there are even more than we mention!) and a selection of papers that have been produced. Plus, we interviewed not-for-profits – global and [...]

Della Weight

Figures recently published by Swiss charity quality mark ZEWO this month, suggest that the economic crisis did not affect giving in Switzerland in 2009 as heavily as expected, as income to its members is holding steady.

Fundraising in an Unpredictable Market

November 11, 2009

Margaret Bennett

During a recession the one thing we can be sure of is that we will be fundraising in an unpredictable market. In the 1980s and 1990s, fundraisers had few reference points to enable them to look back at and learn from the past, but today we have a wealth of quite recent experience to draw [...]

Fiona Duncan

According to the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, and despite many economists’ predictions, the UK economy did not grow in the third quarter of 2009 so we have not yet seen the signal that officially ends the UK recession. The third quarter gross domestic product figures (to be released on 23 [...]

Opening the door to outside influence

October 12, 2009

Della Weight

I’ve often wondered why there’s so little exchange between the for profit and not for profit world? As an industry we are often good at exchanging ideas and sometimes even results – at national and international fundraising conferences, in seminars, training courses and other get-togethers of fundraisers and marketers.  But its fairly rare that you’ll see [...]

How do trusts & foundations react in a recession?

August 21, 2009

Matt Ide

There’s been a lot of speculation in recent months about the effect the recession will have on trust and foundation giving, both now and in the near future. As many trusts and foundations distribute money earned on their invested capital, it is thought the negative impact will take some time to filter through. The extent [...]
