Interim assignment case study – Interim Trust and Foundations Manager – Mindroom
Mindroom is a Scottish charity that helps families that have a child with Learning Difficulties through a maze of issues and access essential services from Health, Social Care, Education and Voluntary agencies (www.mindroom.org). Their experienced team meets a vital frontline need, offering early intervention, providing information and advice, guiding parents through official meetings, drafting responses and researching opportunities to improve the lives of the children concerned. They also have a small adult caseload and train parents, staff and volunteers, work collaboratively and influence national Policy in five Scottish Government cross-party groups.
THINK Interim was asked to provide an Interim Fundraiser to set up a systematic approach for research, application and reporting to grant-making trusts and foundations – and then put this into practice. The system enabled Mindroom to make carefully tailored applications to good prospects as well as more general approaches that might yield benefits after two or three years of consistent contact. Mindroom needed to diversify and increase income because of the growing demand on its services.
Whilst focusing on trusts and foundations, the assignment also included support with statutory bids with the result that Mindroom gained its first three year funding from the Scottish Government.
Mindroom extended the initial contract to cover the whole of 2013 (50 days support) and are now maintaining the system independently, having been very satisfied with the use of an Interim Fundraiser to get this started.
In terms of service delivery, during 2013 Mindroom moved from an active caseload of 114 to one of 238 families and adults. Successful fundraising has helped Mindroom cope with this and employ an additional member of their Direct Help and Support team in early 2014.
