Voluntary Support of Education (USA)

The Council for Aid to Education produces the Voluntary Support of Education (VSE) survey, which is a national source of information on private giving to higher education and private K-12, consistently capturing about 85 per cent of the total voluntary support to colleges and universities in the United States. CAE has managed the survey as a public service for over 50 years.

The most recent report is for 2010 and demonstrated that private contributions to America’s higher education institutions increased 0.5 percent to $28 billion. The VSE Survey is conducted entirely online, and educational institutions and other users can access comparative data with CAE’s powerful VSE Data Miner service.
